Robert Ashcraft is a member of the Open Innovation group in the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), the frontier R&D lab for Samsung Electronics. He is based in Greater Boston and is interested in novel materials and devices that can be leveraged to improve future products. In recent years, he has focused on next-generation energy storage technologies, display materials, functional films, and quantum computing. The Open Innovation group scouts for, nurtures, and on-boards new technologies at all levels of the R&D ecosystem with the variety of tools at our disposal, including sponsored research, IP licensing, venture investments, and joint development. Robert is trained as a chemical engineer, with a Ph.D. from MIT and a B.S. from NC State University. Prior to joining Samsung in 2012, he performed post-doctoral research at Ghent University in Belgium and worked as a technical consultant in Exponent’s Thermal Sciences practice.
